What Does "Rabbit Rabbit" Mean, and Why Is It Our Motto?

Did you know that the R&R in R&R Head Labs stands for "Rabbit Rabbit"? The saying "Rabbit Rabbit" is a superstition that dates back to early 20th-century England. If you say "Rabbit Rabbit" (or variations of it) upon waking on the first day of a new month, it's said to bring good luck for the following month.
When Jamie, our CEO and Founder, was building out our brand, he wanted every opportunity to celebrate second chances and new beginnings. While the "Rabbit Rabbit" saying itself is primarily associated with general good luck, the concept of a new month can symbolize a "second chance." Each new month offers a fresh start, an opportunity to leave behind past misfortunes and embrace new possibilities. In this sense, saying "Rabbit Rabbit" can be seen as an act of optimism to set a positive intention for the "second chance" that a new month represents.

We start every month racing to be the first to wish the team "Rabbit Rabbit" on our team Slack Channel. Deb won last month, coming in at 6:02 a.m.!
If you've admired the mural we had Tuke paint on the York Street side of our building, now you know what the two rabbits stand for! With Spring in the air and bunnies on the brain- keep an eye out for all the rabbits we have hidden in the shop and represented in our branding.

R&R Around Town and in the Shop:
Grasslands in Conversation with R&R Head Labs
We had the unique opportunity to host the writer and director of the upcoming feature film Grasslands, Adam Edery, as well as the star of the film, Quincy Isaiah, recently in the shop. Grasslands is a riveting social justice thriller highlighting the perils of marijuana incarceration that is coming out in mid-April. We filmed a promotional video discussing the intersection of the theme of the movie and how our barbering team has been affected in real life by the same circumstances. Having Adam and Quincy in the shop getting haircuts, discussing experiences, and enjoying each other's company was fun; we can't wait to share the whole video with everyone. In the meantime, click the image below to get a sneak peek.
Since Grasslands debuts on Apple TV this month, we wanted to share a discount for those who pre-order the movie to watch it when it debuts. Between now and April 17th, if you show your downloaded receipt or confirmation email in-shop, you can get $10 off a signature haircut!

Introducing Pat!

Pat joined the team in March, and we already feel so lucky to have him!
"Born and raised in Denver, Colorado, I faced tough choices in my youth that led to incarceration, but it was during this time that I discovered my true passion for barbering. Through deep reflection, I realized I wanted better for myself and found purpose in helping others through a haircut or simply offering a listening ear. After being given a second chance at life, I committed to growth and success, embracing every opportunity to improve. I've been cutting hair for over 15 years, specializing in razor fades and tapers, and my passion for the craft continues to grow. I love meeting new people and providing them with confidence, so a moment that stands out to me was when a customer who came in looking down left with a big smile, saying, "I'm ready to go find me a wife." That's why I do this. I aspire to manage or own a barbershop one day, but no matter what, I strive to treat everyone with integrity, honesty, and commitment to growth, ensuring they feel welcomed and valued."
