I’m Mike, originally from Pueblo, CO. While incarcerated, I taught myself to cut hair out of necessity and turned it into a craft I’m proud of. Over the years, I mastered cutting all hair types and built a reputation for both my skill and the care I show every client. Barbering gave me purpose, taught me humility, and helped me see I’m more than my past.

My Story
I spent 30 years incarcerated, and it was during that time that I discovered barbering—almost by accident. I needed a haircut, so I started cutting my own hair. When others saw the results, they began asking me to cut theirs too. What started as a necessity quickly turned into something much more. I realized I had a real talent for it, and more importantly, I loved the feeling I got when someone looked in the mirror and smiled after a cut.
Over the years, I honed my craft behind prison walls, learning to cut all hair types and developing a deep understanding of how a great haircut can change the way someone feels about themselves. It wasn’t just about technique—it was about connection. I’ve had people from other facilities seek me out just to sit in my chair. That kind of trust and respect reminded me that I was capable of doing something meaningful.
Barbering helped me through some of the darkest times in my life. It gave me purpose, structure, and a way to serve others. It also taught me humility—when you're behind the chair, you're not just a barber; sometimes, you're a counselor, a sounding board, a friend. I came to understand that we all face struggles, and that realization made me more compassionate—not just as a barber, but as a human being.
Since coming home, I’ve continued to learn and grow. I stay in the shop, watch others, and absorb everything I can. My goal is to be comfortable and confident with any request that comes my way. I want every person who sits in my chair to feel welcome, respected, and valued. I meet people where they’re at, and I try to be my most authentic self with every client.
I’ve learned that my story has power, and I’m not afraid to share it. I used to believe I’d always be judged for my past, but I’ve come to understand that we are not defined by our worst mistakes. I want to lead by example—by showing up, doing good work, and being kind. My dream is simple: to live well, make people smile, and use my experience to inspire others who might be walking a hard road.
As I often remind myself, somewhere, someone is praying for the things we take for granted. That keeps me grounded—and grateful.

Mike did a great job with my cut, best cut I’ve had in a long time. He made sure I got exactly what I wanted and did an awesome job on the back of my hair, which can be a pain to get right. Overall, great place and people. Highly recommend giving them a chance.
